Product Placement

Product placement in movies, television shows, and live events seem to have an impact on consumers.  For example, in Iron Man 1 Robert Downey Jr. was shown driving a new Audi vehicle that was released around the time the movie first premiered.  This kind of exposure was worldwide and seen by millions if not billions of people.  I can only imagine how much money Audi spent on this product placement and I am assuming it was a lot.  Billions of people watch movies and placing a product in something that can be seen by billions of people sounds like a good investment.  Thats what advertising is, exposure, the more the better.

  1. I think that this plays on subliminal messages. Many times you dont even notice the product placement itself. The product gets immersed in the environment and you have seen it there before so many times that its normal to see a coke or apple computer on a desk. Its becomes what people think reality should be.

  2. Product Placement is extremely important to the success of a company. That's why its one of the 4 P's in the marketing mix. If you really want to see product placement at its finest, check out a grocery store. Look at where different types of cerial are positioned. Sugary, colored, childrens cerials such as Lucky CHarms, Fruit Loops, and Apple Jacks are always at lower shelves, in order to be at childrens eye level. The healthier miltigrain cereals are placed at eye levels for adults. Also milk and bread are usually located in the back of the store, forcing people to walk by all the other aisles before getting to the milk. This is done on purpose to entice impulse buys. Grocery stores are the best examples of product placement with a purpose.
